Key features of RJ Mitchell UK Awareness programme 2005 on behalf of The Sidney E Frank Foundation included:


  • Inside The Spitfire exhibition at London's Science Museum (opened 15 August, 2005).
  • Commission of RJ Mitchell statue (unveiled by Mr Sidney E Frank on 15 September, 2005 - Battle of Britain Day) to be permanently housed in London's Science Museum.
  • 25,000 advertising campaign in RAF, flying and air show publications and programmes.
  • Contribution and RJ Mitchell plaque on The Battle of Britain Historical Society's Battle of Britain London Monument unveiled on London's Westminster embankment by HRH The Prince of Wales on Sunday 18 September, 2005.
  • Creation of this dedicated RJ Mitchell website, which has attracted 45,000 visitors to date who each spend, on average, over 10 minutes perusing the 60 page site.
  • The establishment of an English Heritage Blue Plaque on the house in which RJ Mitchell lived in Southampton when he designed the Spitfire.
  • A major RJ Mitchell education programme involving 6,000 secondary schools across Britain timed to coincide with the 65th anniversary of The Battle of Britain.
  • Various associations with commercial companies who either make model Spitfire aircraft or sell beer under the Spitfire brand name.
